Wiliam Thoresby Cooksey (1866-1952)

Born in London, he was the second son of Daniel Cooksey, a funeral director from Clerkenwell, and his wife Jane Ann nee Thoresby.

Cooksey was a Municipal Reform Party politician.

In 1906 he was elected to Islington Borough Council, holding his seat until 1925. he was appointed a justice of the peace in 1910.

He was twice elected to the London County Council: in 1925 he was elected as one of two councillors for Islington South. He lost his seat in 1928 when the Labour Party won both South Islington seats. At the 1931 election the Municipal Reformers regained the seats and he returned to the council, but the seats were again lost to Labour in 1934.
