William Matthews (c.1834 - 10 May 1899) was an umbrella manufacturer and local politician.

He stood as an Independent Conservative candidate at the first London County Council elections in 1889, at Camberwell, Dulwich but failed to be elected.

By the time of the second county council election in 1892 he had become a candidate of the Moderate Party, the Conservative-backed opposition group on the council. He was electe as a councillor for Dulwich and re-elected in 1895 and 1898.

He died at his home in Anerley in May 1899 aged 65.
