Stephen "Steve" Bundred is a former Labour Party politician who has served in a number of regulatory roles.

In 1978 he ewas elected to Islington Borough Council to represent Highview Ward. He was a member of the Greater London Council representing Islington North from 1981 until the GLC's abolition in 1986. He was subsequently elected to the Inner London Education Authority to represent the same area in 1986.

He was chief executive of Camden Borough Council, and worked in Lewisham and Hackney Councils.

Among other positions he has held are:

  • Chair of the Higher Education Regulation Review Group
  • Member of the Higher Education Funding Council for England
  • Deputy Pro-Chancellor of City University
  • Board Member of the Office for Nuclear Regulation
  • Chair of The Independent Regulator of NHS Foundation Trusts (Monitor)

He made an independent report into the deficit at Bristol City Council.[1]
