Ronald Dennis Mitchell was a Conservative Party councillor.

He was a resident of Bethnal Green in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, an area that traditionally has a very low Conservative vote.

At the 1968 borough council elections he stood for election at the Bethnal Green Central ward. Most of the wards in the borough were uncontested with the Labour Party winning seats by default. In Bethnal Green Central Mitchell came within 71 votes of being elected.

In 1970 he stood for election to the Greater London Council as a representative of Tower Hamlets, finishing in third place. In 1971 he again stood for election to Tower Hamlets at Bethnal Green Central but did poorly. At the 1973 Greater London Council elections he stood at Hornchurch, a more promising seat for the Conservatives, but came second to Labour.

In 1977 he finally achieved electoral success, winning the Feltham and Heston on the Greater London Council. He lost the seat at the next GLC election in 1981.

In 1986 he was again a candidate for Tower Hamlets Council, this time at Shadwell ward. The elections were a bitter contest between Labour and the Social Democratic Party and Mitchell finished last of seven candidates.
