Arthur William Jephson (1853 - 21 August 1935) was a Church of England clergyman.
The son of a clergyman, Jephson was born in Norwood in the Surrey suburbs of London. He entered Corpus Christi College, Cambridge in 1871, graduating with a BA in 1875 and an MA in 1878.
He was ordained a deacon in 1876 and was appointed curate of Croydon, becoming a priest in the following year. In 1880 he was appointed vicar of St Johns, Waterloo Road Lambeth and in 1893 of St John's Walworth.
A man of Radical political views working in largely working class districts, he quickly became involved in local administration.
He was a member of the London School Board representing Lambeth West from 1885-1891 and Lambeth East from 1894-1904, when the board was abolished. The London County Council took over the activities of the school board, and Jephson was elected as a Progressive Party councillor representing Newington (Walworth). He resigned from the council on 1 May 1906.
He was elected to Southwark Borough Council in 1900 and was Mayor of Southwark in 1905-06. He was appointed an honorary canon of Southwark Cathedral in 1905.
In 1908 he left London on being appointed rector of Ecton in Northamptonshire. He held the post until his death, following a heart attack, aged 82.
Wrote a number of books including 'My Work in London' and [Municipal Work from a Christian standpoint'.
