John William Dodson (22 September 1869-29 July 1933), known as 2nd Baron Monk Bretton of Conyboro and Hurstpierpoint from 1897, was a diplomat and Municipal Reform Party politician.

The only son of John George Dodson, first Baron Monk Bretton (1825–1897) and his wife Florence née Campion. He was born in Sussex and his father was the first chairman of East Sussex County Council and Liberal Unionist Party politician.

He worked in the Diplomatic Service from 1894 until he inherited the barony in 1897. He was briefly assistant Private Secretary to the Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Lord Salisbury from 1899-1900, and was Principal Private Secretary to Secretary of State for the Colonies, Joseph Chamberlain, from 1900–1903.

He was twice a member of the London County Council. On 31 October 1911 he was elected to fill a vacancy on the aldermanic benches caused by the resignation of Shirley Benn. The term of the office, under normal circumstances, was to end in March 1916. With the outbreak of the First World War, Monk Bretton gained a commission in the Sussex Yeomanry, and resigned from the council on 26 October 1915.

In March 1922 he returned to the county council, elected as one of two councillors representing Wandsworth, Clapham. Re-elected in 1925, 1928 and 1931, he was Chairman of the London County Council for 1929-30.
