Chairman of the London County Council 1946 – 1947.
First Assistant General Secretary of the British Transport and General Workers’ Union and later a London Transport executive – 1935 member of the London Passenger Transport Board. 1947-55 (retirement) Deputy Chairman LCC of the London Transport Executive. 1937 elected LCC alderman. Deputy Lieutenant of Middlesex from 1949. Founder member of the British Institute of Management. Drove the last London tram into New Cross Depot July 1955.
