The Very Reverend Canon James Mahoney Ph.D. (1873-28 September 1938) was a Roman Catholic clergyman and Labour Party politician.

Born in St Margaret's at Cliffe on the Kent coast, he was ordained as a priest in 1900. He was curate at St. Peter's, Woolwich 1900-06, and rector at St. Anselm's, Dartford 1906-16. In 1916 he became parish priest of the parish of the Assumption, Deptford. In 1927 he was created a rural dean and in 1933 he was appointed to the honorary rank of canon.

He was elected to Deptford Borough Council and Board of Guardians. He also sat as a member of the London County Council representing Deptford 1922-37.

He retired in 1937 due to ill health, and died in Deal, Kent in the next year. He was buried in Brockley Cemetery.
