James Carter Hart (1853 - 27 January 1928) was a businessman and educationist.

Born in Sundridge, Kent, his family moved to Bermondsey. By the 1880s he had established himself as a tobacconist, bootmaker and clerk to an East India merchant in Mare Street, Hackney.

He was a member of the London School Board for six years, elected to represent Hackney in 1885 and 1888. He was defeated at the 1891 school board elections.

He later worked for Wilkinson, Heywood and Clark, paint manufacturers.

He retired to Lewisham, where he died.
