Helen S Kiely (née Jeger) (11 November 1909 – 24 April 1992).
Born to an Austrian Jewish father, Maurice, and a Russian Jewish mother, Felice, she had two brothers who were involved in Labour Party politics: Santo Jeger (1898-1953), a member of the London County Council 1931-46 and MP for St Pancras South East and Holborn and St Pancras South 1945-53, and George Jeger (1903-71), a member of parliament from 1945-71.
She served as Mayoress of Shoreditch in 1937-38 during her brother George's mayoralty: he did not marry until 1950.
She married Anthony Philip Kiely (1919–89), a South African born economist, journalist, broadcaster and music critic in 1944 in Hendon Registration District.
She was herself elected to the London County Council as a Labour Party councillor representing Battersea North from 1958 until the county council's abolition in 1965.
