The Greenway is a footpath and cycleway that is between Wick Lane, Hackney Wick and Royal Docks Road, Beckton. It is a very useful route for cyclists who wish to transfer from Cycle Superhighway CS2 or CS3 or from the Lea Valley Walk towpath's as well as avoiding local road's. It is associated with the Northern Outfall Sewer, and the Capital Ring walkpath also follows the route.
Section 1 Hackney Wick (Wick Lane) to West HamEdit
The footpath|cyclepath is fairly straightforward starting from Wick Lane crossing over the River Lea where the Lea Valley Walk between Hertfordshire and Limehouse Basin passes under the bridge for cyclists who wish to transfer and the Capital Ring long-distance footpath also joins the path here for walkers to and from, then after passing the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the path passes near Pudding Mill Lane DLR Station where major work has happened to the path here to to the Olympics development with major improvements being made. Afterwards it is again straightforwards crossing over Stratford High Street where Cycle Superhighway CS2 east and west passes fully segregated between Aldgate and Stratford for cyclists who wish to transfer. The route then continues near Abbey Road and turns southeast towards West Ham Station over a bridge crossing the Jubilee Line and DLR tracks to where there access via Manor Road to the station.
The path then crosses after the District Line and Hammersmith and City Line and c2c tracks via a bridge, then passing the East London Cemetary and Memorial Recreation Ground and heading pass many back gardens up until Barking Road, from this point the path continues sightly to Prince Regent Lane where Newham General Hospital can be accessed via the road. If not then the path will pass behind the hospital until Boundary Lane where it can be accessed again.
From Newham General Hospital, the path is fairly straightforward only passing backyards until the Capital Ring long-distance footpath spits off to Beckton District Park and Woolwich onto Stoke Road for walkers to and from, and then again passing up until the junction between the A13 and A117. After the busy crossing, the path briefly passes though the East Ham Nature Reserve before crossing again to avoid going down the wrong footpath|cyclepath to Barking, afterwards cyclists need to briefly share Cycle Superhighway CS3 which is fully segregated between East India Station to Barking, which runs south alongside the A13 before turning southeast to rejoin the Greenway though the Beckton Alps. The path then carry on till it reaches Royal Dock Road where there two slip paths to Gallion's Reach Shopping Centre or Beckton Triange Retail Park.
