George Mitchell was a marble mason and educationist.

Born in Montacute, Somerset, Mitchell established his marble business at 166 Brompton Road in 1851. He expanded to have "manufacturies" in Belgium, France and Italy.

In 1882 he was elected to the London School Board as one of the representatives of Chelsea, but lost his seat at the next triennial election in 1885.

George Mitchell School [1], Leyton, is named after George Allan Mitchell [2].
