Dr Esther Rickards (13 July 1893 - 8 February 1977) was a surgeon and Labour Party politician.
Born in Paddington, she was the daughter of John Edward Rickards, a veterinary surgeon and Annie née Somers. She wished to become a vet herself, but women were not permitted to take up the profession and she trained in medicine instead. She was educated at the Regent Street Polytechnic, Birkbeck College, the London School of Medicine and St Mary's Hospital. She maintained her interest in animals, breeding cocker spaniels for thirty years.
