Edmonton is a borough constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election.
According to the Boundary Commission for England, the Edmonton constituency will merge with Chingford giving it the new name Chingford and Edmonton. Bush Hill and Hazelbury wards will accede to Enfield Southgate and the Upper Edmonton ward to the Tottenham constituency
Generally a safe Labour seat since World War II, it was gained narrowly, by the Conservatives in 1983. They had a much increased majority in 1987 before holding it narrowly in 1992. It has had safe Labour majorities since 1997; this is probably their best area in the London Borough of Enfield.
