Station on the Metropolitan Line opened on 8 July 1889 as the original northern terminus of the Metropolitan Railway from Baker Street. The distance between Chesham and Chalfont & Latimer Station is the longest distance between adjacent stations on the network at 3.89 miles (6.26 km). It is in Travelcard Zone 9. There was a goods yard, and there were initially plans to extend the line towards Tring, which did not progress.
The Chess Valley Walk begins outside the station.
