Carl Stettauer (1859 - 24 July 1913) was leather merchant, leading member of the Jewish community and politician.
Born in Fürth, Bavaria, he was the son of Orthodox Jewish parents. He was educated in Nuremburg and became a leather salesman, travelling to Italy and the United States before settling in Great Britain. He founded the firm of Stettauer & Wolff, leather merchants of Bermondsey.
He was a member of Hampstead Synagogue, an auditor of the Board of Deputies, a member of the Anglo-Jewish Association and of the Jewish Board of guardians. In 1905, during the Jewish pogroms in Russia he travelled to that country to organise relief.
In 1903 he was elected to Stepney Borough Council as a councillor for Spitalfields East ward. On 9 November 1909 he was nominated to be Mayor of Stepney but in a deadlocked vote with Frederick Nicholas Charrington of the Union of Stepney Ratepayers neither were elected to the office. He eventually declined the mayoralty.
Progressive Party Member of the London County Council elected 1910-13 Tower Hamlets (Mile End). His daughter, Eleanor, married Harry Louis Nathan, Liberal Party member of parliament for Bethnal Green North East and she represented the same area on the London County Council.
