Bank and Monument stations are one station with two separate names and a significant walking distance between the two, but remain the same with interchanges between the two. Bank is served by the Central, Northern and Waterloo & City lines as well as the Docklands Light Railway. Monument is served by the Circle and District lines which share tracks and platforms there. It is a very old station which opened in 1884 originally.

Location[]

Bank and Monument are both in the City of London. The walk between the two parts is almost as far as walking between Monument Station and Cannon Street, two consecutive stations on the District and Circle lines.

The entrance to Bank is at a junction where Cheapside, King William Street, Cornhill, Threadneedle Street and Prince's Street all meet up.

The entrance to Monument is at a junction where Cannon Street, Eastcheap and Gracechurch Street all meet up.

Layout[]

Bank is a very complex station, with a number of escalators and walkways on several levels.

Services[]

The Central line originally terminated here, and now it is situated on a very tight bend between St. Paul's and Liverpool Street. There are daily services to and from here to Ealing Broadway, West Ruislip, Woodford via Hainault and Epping. The majority of trains on the Woodford loop only go as far as Hainault.

The Circle line runs clockwise and anti-clockwise on a daily basis.

The District line provides services to almost all destinations on the route: Upminster (though some trains terminate at Tower Hill), Wimbledon, Richmond and Ealing Broadway.

The Northern line also serves here, with trains running to High Barnet, Edgware, Morden and rarely Mill Hill East. The Bank branch (named after the station) is the branch that serves the station.

Bank is also the eastern terminus for the Waterloo & City line. This two station service runs to here from Waterloo from Mondays to Saturdays.

Two routes of the Docklands Light Railway terminate here. One runs to King George V via London City Airport and the other runs to Lewisham via Canary Wharf.
