Alfred Thomas Williams (1866 - 4 May 1908). The son of Sir George Williams, founder of the YMCA.
Moderate Party Member of the London County Council elected 1901 for Tower Hamlets (Stepney). A founding member of the British Brothers League, an anti-immigration body, he was known for giving very inflammatory speeches.[1] He gave evidence to the Royal Commission on Alien Immigration in 1904, claiming large numbers of Polish and Russian Jews were settling in the East End and causing housing and employment problems.[2]
He had a home at Clippesby Hall in Norfolk, and was selected as Conservative Party candidate for East Norfolk prior to the 1906 General Election but retired due to ill health.
