Alex McLaughlin was an industrial relations officer and Labour Party politician.

In 1961 he was elected to the London County Council as a representative for Bethnal Green. He held the seat until the county council's abolition on 31 March 1965. He returned to local government in 1972. He was elected to the Greater London Council (GLC), which had replaced the London County Council, when there was a by-election on 15 June to fill a casual vacancy in the representation of Wandsworth caused by the death of Sir Norman Pritchard. He did not stand at the next GLC elections on 12 April 1973.
