The 309 bus route is a route that operates within Tower Hamlets and Newham. It is owned by First London, but was originally owned by East London bus company until recent years.

The fleet is made up of a few single-decker buses which operate on a schedule of roughly every 12 minutes, with this time increasing on Sunday services as well as holidays such as Good Friday.

In early 2008, the 309 has began a new scheme to include announcements of the next stop and the bus' destination. When nearing a bus stop the announcer will say the stop's name and if the stop button is pressed it will say "Bus stopping". Below is an example of what the new announcements say upon announcing the destination:

RouteEdit

The route begins at Canning Town Station in Newham. From here it heads west and passes through the Aberfeldy Estate and then passes beneath St. Leonard's Way. From here it passes through both the Teviot and Lansbury estates and serves Chrisp Street Market along the way. It then passes across Burdett Road and Mile End Stadium before heading north to Stepney Green Station and then Bethnal Green Station. From here it heads in the direction of Victoria Park and then terminates at the London Chest Hospital with a stop directly outside Raine's Foundation School.
